In Guyana, more than 60 organizations have made a joint submission to authorities, to raise the age of sexual consent to 18.
The subject became a heated issue in Guyana last year after a number of cases in which girls as young as 14 had been abused and even murdered allegedly by men with whom they were having sexual relationships.
The central issue according to the joint submission is about providing young girls with as much protection as possible from sexual predators.
The age of sexual consent in Guyana at the moment is 12 years.
