'Criminals among us' says police chief

Monday, June 6, 2005

Jamaica's Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas has openly accused his officers of corrupt practices.
Mr Thomas said some officers regularly tipped off criminals before raids, supplied gunmen with ammunition and recruited drug couriers to smuggle narcotics abroad.
To deafening applause, the Police Commissioner said members of the police force had become so involved in criminality, that they loaded drug couriers and sent them off to their destinations.
He added that some policemen and women even load drugs in marked police vehicles which are then used to transport the illegal cargo to its destination.
Though many Jamaicans have long suspected widespread corruption within police ranks, the Commissioner's comments marked the most sweeping official condemnation.

Corruption in the police force?
I know that there will come a time when people have to come together. You really have to think about what you have to lose before you take a stand against any kind of corruption...in most instances it is not worth it and no one will be remembered for their heroics. If you know who they are then quietly erradicate them and don't let it be known that you were the person who took keys figures out.

NOT UP TO DE TIMES
Where has the commisioner been the last twenty something years. It's only now that he's figuring out that there courrpution and crimminal activity within the police force. I just wonder now that he knows this what he going to do impose his power of authority.
