Jamaica sends home Haitian migrants

Monday, June 27, 2005

Three hundred Haitian Refugees were sent back to Haiti from Jamaica over the past week, after Jamaican authorities rejected their applications for political asylum.
The migrants were among more than 700 who had arrived in Jamaica since the armed rebellion that led to the departure of ousted Haitian President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in February last year.
About 500 arrived in ramshackle boats shortly after the rebellion, but half decided they didn't want to stay and were sent home.
Another 217 Haitians arrived earlier this year.

Haitians
The Haitians in America need to go home and help their country and they are not doing so. Most Haitians do not want to go back to Haiti, so their country will forever remain poor.

poor ppl can help poor ppl
Listen u dont have to be rich to help other people its called working together while Jamaica is poor it is 10 times better than Haiti. Lets talk about Jamaican Priorities Clothes and Shoes, pure vanity the rich keep us from learning the true history and so many jamaicans are poor and dont know thier relationship to Haitians. Cuba was poor but they were helping Grenada to build a air strip, and they sent soldiers to liberate Namibia and so now those pple are loyal to Cuba who didnt charge them. Its like jamaica following the talented ten bullshit leaving the majoity behind. but tables tend to turn all di time

Sorry Haiti
Sorry Haiti but we have our own problems and if we seek to help you guys what position does that put us in. Furthermore if we did allow them to our country, they will need to work right! Well there isn't enough jobs for the Jamaican people some go to bed with nothing in their belly at night. We might risk the opportunity of them taking jobs away from the Jamaicans. an we caan afford dat!!! Sorry Haiti but we dont have the money nor the space to accommodate you!

I don't blame Jamaica
I agree, Jamaica can not help anyone else until the problems on our homeland are fixed. The Haitians were ungrateful when they arrived and some decided they didn't want to stay. My question is If Jamaica was willing to help why not take it when the offer was there now plenty are saying "Jamaica shouldn't do that". Bottom Line is the Haitians was damn ungrateful and dem get weh dem fi get...My comment to the gentlemen who said Jamaica is no better ah lie you ah tell. Jamaica may have it's own issues, but their obviously in a better predicament then Haiti...You Too Bright!!!

well, As a Haitian and married to a Jamaican woman. Jamaican is not that different from Haiti. I think it was a very wrong thing to do (send the Haitian back) because these people were in need. I would expect the haitian government to help any black brothers and sisters who need help; regardless of the issue which they might be going through. Jamaican should not be pretended to be better than Haitian because I visited Jamaica ain't nothing major about Jamaica.

OPEN OPINION
WELL, I WOULDNT KNOW THE FIRST THING TO DO IF I WAS IN THE POSITION TO SEND THEM BACK. THINK ABOUT IT, THEN PUT JAMAICANS IN THE SAME POSITION. ALMOST ANY AND EVERYONE YOU ASK WOULD SAY BEHIND JAMAICA, HAITI HAS THE WORST SET OF PEOPLE IN THE CARIBBEAN. NOW, THE ONLY REASON WHY JAMCAICANS ARE MORE ACCEPTABLE IS BECAUSE WE GET PUT OUT THERE BY SUPERSTARS OF MUSIC, AND ATHLETICS. THINK ABOUT IT. WE ONLY AFRAID TO HELP BECAUSE WE ARE THINKING THAT THIS WILL MAKE IT WORST IN JAMAICAN. BUT BE HUMAN FOR A MINUTE!

Jamaica sends Haitians home
It took Jamaica long enough to realise that they cannot help anyone unless they help themselves first. We all seem to forget how ungreatful some of the Haitians were upon their arrival to Jamaica. Our hearts are in the wrong place. Take care of home first and foremost...!

Haiti Deportation
It's very hard to swallow that Jamaica is the only island that the haitians look to for help as far as, I can remember there is alot other island in the Caribbean that can come together & solve this problem, what about St Kitts, Trinidad, St. Vincent E.T.C- Unity is strenght let the Caribbean Islands get together & help each other.

Haiti
I don't think its fair for anyone to say that the Jamaican government should just take these people into the country. Look at the present state the country is in. The government can hardly provide food and jobs for its people. They dont have any records or anything on these people, so they do not know who they are taking in especially the men and its mostly men who have arrived on the island thus far. However, I do not think its right for the government to just send them home just like that. I think that they should have made arrangements to help them first.

Hands can't reach
It goes without saying: "don't put your hat where your hands can't reach." Jamaica is in a real struggle as is, starvation, poverty, crime and the likes. Very similar to Haiti. Yes each one should reach one, but what if your "hand can't reach"? It just can't reach.

Haitians being sent home
As a Jamaican, I donot see a problem with the Haitians being sent home, for the simple fact that Jamaica cannot continue to help other countries when it needs to help itself and its people. There is a process to be followed and the ruling was made, yes, it is perhaps a sad ruling but lets face the facts; Jamaica needs the same kind of help that the Haitians are seeking. Look at the number of Jamaicans in the US who are seeking asylum and are being denied. Help yourself before you can help others.

Jamaica did what they had to do. Jamaica ask who wanted to saty and process those people paper works. If the paper works are not within Jamaica guidlines, then u have to go - Just like any other countries that process illegal aliens. They don't accept people who may have certain personal record. Jamaica have problem of their own furhter to add to it.
