As reported on BBC Caribbean Magazine, Grenada's Education Minister Claris Charles has expressed grave concern about the emergence of Passa Passa as a new trend on the Grenadian entertainment circuit.
Mrs Charles says Passa Passa - which has it origins in Jamaica - is not welcome in Grenada and has no place in Grenadian society.
I am hearing something called Passa Passa wich is creeping into the public. Its where persons are having dances and some young ladies are almost half naked.
"I think when we want to be monkeys, and copy other people we should copy the right thing. There is no merit in a young lady exposing themselves in public and letting a DVD be made of them. These things are reminiscent of Sodom & Gomorrah. This has no place in Grenada. Passa Passa involves crowds of music fans congregating late at night until the early morning in noted downtown areas to dance, chill out and vibe to music while street vendors provide refreshments.
Some musicians use Passa Passa events as a visual backdrop to their music videos, which has added to their popularity. American rap artists have followed suit when shooting promos in the region. This, in turn, encourages some attendants to dress up in the hope of being caught on camera.
Minister Charles went on:
I am appealing to everyone in Grenada: let Passa Passa pass Grenada by. This is one of the biggest problems Ive seen. When theres no decency in a society, the society can go nowhere. You have educated, indecent, persons with no value for themselves and therefore they have no value for other people and no respect. When you have no respect for yourself, you have no respect for anybody, and thats a very dangerous trend.
passa passa
If the women do not have minds of their own especially young girls there is nothing that can be done .The only solace is that there are plenty of young girls who are not involved in this behaviour. They are the ones who will ensure the future while these party girls will only end up pregnant and working minimum wage jobs .Thats the future they want anyhow. Its the same here in Barbados as well.

Passa Passa
I really dont see the problem with it, people are having fun and show off their skills, if the women want to act like they dont have no respect for themselves that is up to them but partyin while be partyin no matter when it is. Let them people have fun while they still young and can do it.

My son sleeps with his hands inside his, what am I suppose to do? get a meat cleaver and cut off his hands! Not in a million years. We worry ourselves about stupid things. Many Hip- Hop Artist doe's the same thing on live TV!

Dancing Is Not A Crime
Dancing makes me feel alive.A crime or crimes haven't been committed.I don't think the minister should waste her time talking about a none issue.

It's Not Crimes To Dance""
I Studied radio and TV broadcasting in Canada and I think if people are just dancing, enjoying themselves and they are not committing crimes, whats wrong with that?I haven't heard anyone dying from doing the Passa Passa. Some people are too petty. What the hell is wrong with dancing anyway?Would you rather they rob and kill people? I personally love to dance,it makes feel alive.

What's the fuss about?
When people are going to Church they dress for the occasion. During Caribbana in Canada we dress for the occasion. What you wear cant degrade you, it comes from your mind. If it degrades you, then you were degraded before, not because of Passa Passa!!!!!!! You think I am going to walk into the hospital where I work half naked. Not even when I am drunk, I dont even drive that day, I take Taxi. People needs to enjoy themselves and have control. Olay olay olay olay, feeling hot hot hot, I love that song.

Well said MS QUEENIE
All those hypocrites who plan and participate in Carnival always have something bad to say about Dancehall when both are in essence the same. Although Carnival is not as civil as Passa Passa because both males and females are skimpily clad while bumping and grinding and whatever else they do with every and anybody in the street. Passa Passa is more confined to a specific location, not eveyone is dressed skimpily and not everyone a bump an grind. So the problem is not Passa Passa the problem is that the Minister Charles need to stop disrespecting Jamaican culture. Instead the Minister should be trying to build up the Grenadian culture so that they would have to follow the jamaicans

Do you know how to speak French. Bonjour Cava ? Cava bien. Anyway I was just kiding. I agree with you but, sometime we all need some fun in our lives. I was born in the Caribbean and I don't see anything wrong with dancehall. That is just part of their tradition. Don't get it twisted that was just your opinion about Pasa Pasa.

keep passa passa out of Grenada!!!
some of you say that this passa passa thing is all about havin good fun. Women shouldn't have to degread themselves like that to have fun, i have seen a passa passa dvd and it was disgusting. Women holding and exposing there crotch on a dvd for people to see. why not show respect for yourself. After you expose and wine yourself up on a man and things go further all you want to call "Rape". The way these women act with this thing is not cute. It's setting bad examples for young girls in this world. There are ways of dancing and having fun. SHOW YOUR BODY SOME RESPECT. As a born and raised Grenadian, i say keep it in JA . cuase we dont need that.

What's the diff?
I live in the states and I have a big collection of PASSA PASSA dvds. I don't see the difference between that and the carnival. You have scantly clad women dancing with shirtless men and their pictures are plastured all over the internet for the world to see. Not many people know about PASSA PASSA and those that do they're trying to catch the lastest dances to come from JA. If you don't like it don't watch it!

To Ms. Charles!!!!!
What are you talking about? some of these people who are dancing are professionals ,they just wants to have a bit of fun on week-ends or on their days off. They are Doctors, Lawyers, Computers experts and many others. It is a healthy mix. Try Treating Patients in an hospital 24/7 without a little fun and see what happen to your mind. Long live Passa Passa.

Passa Passa!!!!
The best thing to hit Grenada, there is noting wrong with it, it is just young people enjoying themselves. Dancing and expressing ones self is good for your "soul and body" It can releave you of stress and let people get to know each other in a different(special) way." It is the Caibbean way of dancing with the Stars.) Stop talking shit and Capitalize on it. Use it as a Tourist attraction, they love it. Long live Passa Passa, I love it, WICKED!!!!
