Meanwhile in the Cayman Island, officials are already seeing the effects of the economic decline in the US which has delivered a severe blow to their Tourist Industry. According to them, the Cayman cruise industry is reeling from an all time low in the number of arrivals this year. The latest official figures show that the number of cruise shippers visiting the Cayman Islands is continuing to fall with a further 63 fewer cruise calls expected from Royal Caribbean.
Records reveal that in fact, the arrival figures for 2007 have been lower than the figures recorded during the first five months of 2006. In September 2007, just 69,802 people came ashore in George Town during cruise ship visits compared to 110,971 in September 2006, a fall of over 41,000 or 37 percent. If the prevailing trend continues, it is estimated that total cruise ship arrivals in 2007 could be down by over 300,000.
