Gonsalves calls for practical reparation for slavery

Monday, November 5, 2007

St Vincent and The Grenadine's Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves has spoken out against Britain's close mouthed policy on the issue of reparation for slavery in the Caribbean. Speaking at the official ceremony marking St Vincent's 28th anniversary of Independence, Gonsalves said that Europe's encounter with the Caribbean had ushered "500 years of colonialism, neo colonialism and imperialism, awash with racism and the crudest, most exploitative form of capitalism." The Prime Minister insisted that this was a wrong which needed to be righted in practical, tangible ways, bringing immediate benefit to the Caribbean. "We will accept an apology as being sincere if it's a sign of inward grace, which reflects accompanying outward practical reparation;," the Prime Minister said," it is surely a historic wrong, which must be righted appropriately."

i totally agree with the argument. more needs to be said about the past. in england this day we as black people are still suffering from the whites. theres a border where/ and how far we as blacks can reach in england. im in the army and i experience racism everyday.

repartriation
I would personally like to thank Prime Minister Gonzales, for his comments. Where are the rest of our governmental figures who are supposed to have our best interests at heart.

Repartriation
I agree whole heartedly, The abuse and the racism are still happening now which is part of the reason Britain especially are brushing the issue under the carpet. Slavery is a silent war crime, genocide and rape of us as black people, it will not be forgiven until adequate measures are taken to amend the pain it has caused on all levels.
