Crime rate down in Barbados, law enforcement celebrate

Monday, November 5, 2007

In Barbados, law enforcement officials are celebrating a 46% decrease in the murder rate as well as an overall 8% decrease in crime in the small island state. Speaking at recently held awards ceremony of the Barbados Police Force, Police Commissioner Darwin Dottin said that the crime fighting agency was on track to achieve its goal of a ten per cent reduction in crime in 2007. The officers also celebrated a 17.5 per cent decline in residential burglary; a 12.5 reduction in commercial burglary; a 35 per cent drop in serious bodily harm, and seven per cent reduction in robbery The Police Commissioner, who praised his officers for their commitment, diligence and resilience, noted that this achievement was especially significant because of Cricket World Cup which had presented more opportunities for criminal activity in 2007.
