Both the Political Leader of the Antigua Labour Party (ALP) Lester Bird and his deputy Gaston Browne have dismissed suggestions that the Antigua Trade and Labour Union (AT&LU) could field candidates in the next general elections independent of the ALP. Bird strongly feels that this may happen. He was speaking with the SUN during activities staged by the party recently in observance of V. C. Birds birthday. Browne also addressed the issue, stating that he did not see the threat that the union could field its own candidates to be a real possibility, and rejected this as a threat that was made in the heat of passion.
