In news from the Eastern Caribbean, St Lucians are reeling from a major price hike of petroleum and petroleum products, with some products seeing an increase of more than double the original price. In a 35 minute address to the nation, Prime Minister Stephenson King announced that gasoline would increase by more than 3 EC dollars per gallon, with diesel seeing an increase of more than 4 dollars, with both products now costing EC 8.75 per gallon. The 100-pound cylinder of cooking gas, which used to cost EC$170.00, will now cost EC$210.00 per cylinder. Kerosene will also be increased from EC$5.10 per gallon to EC$11.10 per gallon.
