Meanwhile in Jamaica, officials from that islands Coast Guard have added two new patrol vessels to their fleets. Valued at more than half a million US each, the two 43 foot Interceptor Patrol boat were handed over to the Chief of Staff of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) Major General Stewart Saunders, by US Ambassador to Jamaica, Brenda LaGrange Johnson. According to reports, the diesel-powered interceptor boats are capable of reaching a top end speed of 60 miles per hour. They are fitted with state-of-the-art communication and radar technologies."Jamaica will also receive US$2.1 million in communications equipment such as radios and relay stations, to help the Coast Guard communicate better and faster while conducting patrols," the Ambassador said.
