In news from Cuba, Fidel Castro recently turned down an invitation to visit Brazil, citing health reasons. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva extended the invitation during a visit to Cuba in January, but was informed by the Cuban leader that he was still recovering from the intestinal ailment and consequences of a fall off a stage in 2004. Meanwhile Cubans are anxious to know whether their Comandante will resume his control of the country or formally step aside. Elections are due in Cuba February 24.
