In Santo Domingo, Haiti and its border neighbor the Dominican Republic are up in arms over allegations of cattle kidnapping. Officials from the Spanish speaking Dominican Republic say that armed Haitians crossed the border and abducted two Dominican males. Haiti has responded that the abduction was in retaliation for a recent incursion by some 50 Dominican farmers who entered Haiti with weapons, to recover some 16 cows and two horses they alleged had been stolen from them. If the army authorities do not guarantee the security of our livestock, we will go to protect them," Suero Rodriguez said. Pedro Jose Suero Rodriguez, president of the Dajabon Association of Cattle Raisers said. Relations between the neighboring countries have been strained in recent weeks, since Haiti banned the importation of chickens and eggs because of the discovery of bird flu in the Dominican Republic. The Haitians have since released the two men.
