Tensions are up once again between doctors and politicians on the Spanish speaking territory, which shares borders with Haiti. Doctors affiliated with the Dominican Doctors Guild in the Dominican Republic have threatened yet another strike if the government does not comply with demands for wage increases and other measures. The government has refused to entertain the doctors' demands until after the upcoming Presidential election, due next month. Officials from the
ruling party say that the strikes are politically motivated and have been orchestrated by agitators seeking to undermine the current administration before the elections are conducted.
