CARIFESTA, the Caribbean's Festival of Arts, has returned to Guyana with this years staging of CARIFEST X, to take place in August in Guyana's capital city Georgetown. The festival, which will be held under the theme ONE: One Caribbean; One purpose; Our Culture; Our Life, aims to showcase the best in Caribbean cultural talent. CARIFEST X was launched this week by Guyana's President Bharrat Jagdeo. This year's staging of CARIFESTA marks the second time in over thirty-five years that the showcase was held in Guyana, the first being in 1972, when CARIFESTA was born.
