Some Caricom Foreign Ministers were in Haiti this week to meet with the Interim Prime Minister of that country. The Delegation received its mandate from the Caricom Heads of Government who met last week in the island of Grenada. The Caricom Heads are still not comfortable with the Interim Government and the way it was installed. Haiti is one of the newest members of the Caribbean Community and Common Market.
The 15-member Caribbean Community, based in Guyana, laid out several conditions at the summit last week for recognizing the government, including disarming the rebels who ousted President Jean-Bertrand Aristide at the end of February this year and opened the way for the new government.
