Meanwhile in news from Guyana, the highly anticipated hijacking and piracy bill has been withdrawn. Guyana's Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee is reported to have withdrawn the bill to facilitate amendments to certain aspects of the bill which he says lack rigidity. "I am not satisfied with some of the clauses which need to be tightened up. I am not happy with the bail aspect of the current draft..." the Minister said. The bill was developed to implement a punishment for piracy when murder is not involved. Under the current legislature, acts of piracy and murder are punishable by death. It is expected that the Hijacking and Piracy Bill will make special provisions to deal with the gaps in the current Criminal laws and Offences Act. The Minister gave no indication as to who expect the re-introduction of the bill into Parliament.
