Since the death of St Lucia Prime Minister Sir John Compton in September 2007, the United Workers Party (UWP) government now led by Stephenson King has been plagued with a string of problems and to date King has held a series of inconclusive meetings. Members of the opposition St Lucia Labor Party (SLP) and also some members of the UWP administration had also been calling for the dismissal of non-elected Senator Ausbert d'Auvergne, who holds the post of Minister of Economic Affairs; Economic Planning; Investment and National Development. During the just concluded St Lucia Jazz 2008, Prime Minister, King was on stage as part of Wyclef Jean's performance, bending over and allowing Jean to leap-frog over him. The images on YouTube and CNN's I-Report are prompting a lot of criticism. Since the Prime Minister has refused to get rid of d'Auvergne, last Saturday Marcus Nicholas resigned as Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly and both Nicholas and Rufus Bousquet delivered their letters to Governor General Dame Pearlette Louisy indicating that they no longer had confidence in King and he will no longer have their support.
