The St Lucia government was heading for another round of internal problems amid reports that the daughter of the island's first prime minister is refusing to accept a position as Deputy Speaker of Parliament. Prime Minister Stephenson King was due to announce his new Cabinet yesterday after resolving the internal rumblings that led to the resignation of his Minister of Economic Planning and Development Ausbert d'Auvergne and almost crashed the 18-month-old United Workers' Party government. Janine Compton, who was earmarked for the post of Deputy Speaker, has vowed not to accept any position in the government if dismissed Minister of Foreign Affairs Rufus Bousquet is brought into the Cabinet. Bousquet had been sacked by Sir John Compton soon after St Lucia switched diplomatic allegiance from China to Taiwan.
