The Director of Guyana's wildlife management authority has been fired for allegedly authorizing the export of dolphins and other endangered species without approval from the government and in violation of international agreements.
The wildlife authority's board terminated his contract for allowing more than two dozen dolphins to be exported to Mexico this year. Officials also accused the Director of allowing the exportation of anteaters and rare birds without approval.
The ousted head of the Wildlife Authority said that he got the approval of Cabinet Secretary Roger Luncheon for the export of the species. Luncheon said he just asked the Director to consider the request to export the Dolphins. It was revealed that the Dolphins were exported by a Presidential Adviser Odinga Lumumba whose company does not have a wildlife exporters licence.
