The Antigua and Barbuda Labor Party (ALP) has severely criticized Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer for not attending the African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) summit that was held in Ghana recently. As the chairman of Caricom, Spencer had an obligation to attend the meeting and represent its members views, as well as those of Antigua and Barbuda, the ALP said. PM Spencer was not the only Caricom head who did not attend the summit. President of Suriname, Ronald Venetiann, was the only Caricom head of government to show up for the summit. The ALP also noted that at the ACP meeting, Ghanaian President J.A. Kufuor criticized the EPA, saying the agreements have the potential to undermine regional integration efforts and split the ranks of ACP countries.
