EU threatens defiant Guyana with higher tariff for not signing EPA

Monday, October 13, 2008

The European Union is preparing to impose increased taxes on goods exported by Guyana as punishment for refusal to accept a free trade accord. Guyana has opted out of signing an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the EU, Unlike 13 other governments in the Caribbean. A document expected to be rubber-stamped by the EUs foreign ministers suggests that Guyana will therefore no longer benefit from the favorable treatment scheme for its Europe-bound exports that has been in place since 1975. As a result, it would be subject to higher tariffs on its exports of rice, rum and seafood. Some leeway is likely to be granted to sugar exports, at least on a temporary basis, according to diplomats. Guyana is the largest sugar exporter in the Caribbean.

So-called Free Trade
The purpose of so-called free trade blocks has only 1 goal, and that is for the destruction of sovereign states thereby removing any nationalistic resistance to corporate takeover - which has already occurred.

Now that capatilism is dead i.e. the financial and corporate arms, we are left to ponder: "What's next?" There are no statesmen alive today to supply the answer but, I will tell you something, this planet is armed to the teeth and the various factions of the elite are going to subject us to strife, poverty and war. Obama is no different than Bush. He, because of his current popularity, will drag the U.S. into a conflict both domestic and foreign. The people will follow him because they are desparate for change but, do not realise that the Zionists control the Democrats and the Republican parties, for some time now.

EPA
I have seen President Jagdeo explain to local people in Guyana involved in sugar production stating that Guyana used to sell its sugar to the EU at under the world commodity price.
When he stated to the EU that the price of sugar would have to go up to support the economy, the EU doesn't want to play ball. So, this is how they play fair with our economy by tying us up in freetrade agreemnets i.e. globalisation.

The Caribbean islands including Guyana, have always danced to the tune of our ex-colonial masters and as a result impoverished our countries and forced our people to migrate to the West for a better life. Brazil, Russia, India, China (BRIC) are the nations that we should be doing business with. Loans from Venezuela, technology from Brazil, would help us greatly to develop firstly a stable infrastructure and eventually, full trade with countries that are fair
