Haitis could be free from foreign debt by the middle of 2009 according World Bank president Robert Zoellick. Haiti is now struggling with the devastation of four hurricanes and tropical storms. After a brief visit to that territory, Zoellick said that, the World Bank has forgiven half of Haiti's debt. Those debts are from programs that have been created with donors. Haiti's total debt stands at 1.69 billion dollars, of which more than 500 million dollars has been forgiven. However, some conditions still have to be met if this is to materialize, these, including transparency, battling corruption and good economic governance.
