The Jamaican government will buy more rice from Guyana as of next year. This is according to Jamaicas minister of Industry and Commerce Karl Samuda, who was in Guyana recently. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed with the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB) to purchase 60,000 tonnes of rice from Guyana next year. Guyana has agreed to ship 5,000 tonnes per month, and if it cannot supply on time the authorities will be informed of the delay. The MOU states that the new agreement will not supersede the existing arrangements between Jamaica and the GRDB
