The latest International Drug Control Strategy Report for 2008 shows that Trinidad and Tobago lacks effective legislation to fight drug smuggling and crime.
The report released by the United States State Department states that Drug interdictions in Trinidad and Tobago remained difficult.
It report further states that the majority of drugs smuggled through Trinidad and Tobago borders ended up, not in the United States, but in other territories, including Europe. In addition, illegal drugs were being smuggled out on yachts, air and sea cargo, or by couriers, and through the use of drug swallowers, which was on the rise
