Antigua and Barbuda's Prime Minister Winston Baldwin Spencer, 60, was sworn in on Friday for a second consecutive five-year term.
In a simple ceremony at the official residence of the Governor General Dame Louise Lake-Tack, Mr. Spencer along with Attorney General Justin Simon took the oath of office. The ceremony was attended by senior party officials and supporters.
His ruling United Progressive Party (UPP) won nine of the seventeen available seats, three fewer than it won in 2004. Lester Bird's Antigua Labour Party picked up three additional seats going from four to seven. The other seat was contested on the island of Barbuda.
The election was not without controversy. One of these was the late opening of several polling stations along with the US investigation of Antiguan-based financier Sir Allen Stanford, concerns about crime and the cost of living.
