Texan billionaire Sir Allen Stanford has pleaded not guilty to charges of fraud, conspiracy and obstruction in a court in Houston, Texas.
Sir Allen faces 21 charges related to an alleged US$7 billion fraud, conspiracy and money laundering
A judge set bail at US$500,000 ahead of his August 25 trial but he remains in custody pending a Government appeal.
Sir Allen arrived at the courthouse wearing handcuffs and leg chains, having spent a week at a detention centre since handing himself in to FBI agents.
Appearing before Judge Francis Stacey, he entered a plea of not guilty to all the charges and the judge set bail.
However, prosecutors demanded that he remain in custody argued that Sir Allen has the means and the incentives to flee.
Meanwhile, the authorities in Antigua and Barbuda have arrested the island's former Chief Financial Regulator Leroy King.
He is accused of taking bribes from Sir Allen to cover up the alleged fraud which involved selling US$7 billion worth of bogus investments from his bank in Antigua.
