An early morning fire at St. Jude Hospital, St. Lucia claimed the lives of three persons. It was reported that one of the victims died on the way to the main Victoria Hospital in Castries while the charred remains of the other two were found at the scene.
Forty seven patients were evacuated from the hospital. Firemen who responded within minutes of the alarm said on their arrival, they heard massive explosions and saw half of the surgical ward engulfed in flames.
All medical services at St. Jude have been cancelled as a result of the fire which is believed to have been started in the surgical ward which has been destroyed along with the operating theatre.
