Guyana's Ogle Airport now certified as international facility
Saturday, September 12, 2009
The Ogle Airport in Guyana was officially certified as an international facility along with the ceremonial signing of the contract for the completion of Phase II of a 4,000-ft (International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Class II C Runway.
In his remarks, transport minister Robeson Benn said the project is part of governments long term development plans.
This development here is one which relates to other investment which the government has been making in the transportation sector throughout the country, Benn said, adding that there are some 50 airstrips throughout the country, 39 of which are actively maintained and providing services to hinterland communities.
Meanwhile, President Bharrat Jagdeo in his address to the gathering said, while it is a significant achievement, it is water under the bridge and the way forward must now be contemplated.
This is an excellent project but we must never linger too long admiring our efforts, as welcome as they are as important for the development for our country as they are, we dont have much time, we need to move on to something else. Jagdeo said.
He noted that there are several other critical projects and urged the private sector to work closely with his administration in moving Guyanas development forward.
The runway for the facility is being extended by four thousand feet and will be completed by 2011 allowing regional carriers to land.

invest in something worth while
i agree with the one guy. Guyana don't need a second airport I think Guyana needs to up it population first before they invest in big country stuff. for example Guyana should work on funds for single mother, children are our future. better programs for schools, pick kids brain to push them selfs to invent and rise to higher highest

Mr Lindiner
Sir, I hope you have come to your senses and rrealise that a nation with 3/4 million people do not need 2 International airport.
Our tourism industry is no way near Jamaica, Trinidad and yet those countries only have 1 international airport.
Mi son, if you are still unable to see the foolishness in this venture, God help you!!

Comrade Lindiner
Sir, last February i went to Guyana and it took me 50 minutes to clear immigration and only 1 plane was on the tarmac!!!
That mi son is pure "rass pass". instead of a second airport, we should focus our resources in upgrading the services of the existing one. Its like having two cars - one not starting and the other only has 3 wheels!!!BUMBU CLATH!!!
I think the PPP government is doing a lot of positive things for the people of Guyan, however, when yu see eye-pass, yu must se su!!!

Comrade Lindiner
Sir, you fail to grasp the meaning of this article: what the skun*t are we going to do with another "international" airport???
Guyana do not have the air traffic congestion as other countries, so there is no fu**ing need for this!!!
Dat money could have been better spent in upgrading the facilities at Timehri!!
This will just be another "white elephant" that the people of Guyana can't afford.
God bless, mi son!!
