The Chairman of FirstCaribbean International Bank, Micheal Mansoor, announced that the bank has made a commitment of XCD200, 000, as the starting balance in an account titled St Jude Hospital Rehabilitation Fund, Account number #106906839, established by FirstCaribbean International Bank, an affiliate company of the Canadian-based CIBC.
The news was welcomed by Prime Minister and official Head of the National Emergency Management Organisation Stephenson King.
The CEO of the Bank described the disaster as one which touched his financial institution at a very personal level, for it was not a month ago that we had taken the initiative to lead the effort to make some enhancements to the St Jude Hospital through our Community outreach programme. He further stated that the St Jude tragedy was handled as a priority situation at the level of the Banks regional office in Barbados with guidance from the Saint Lucia Country Manager, Mrs. Mauricia Thomas-Francis.
He expressed the hope that all Saint LuciansCorporate, individual and organisationalwill embrace the rebuilding effort as a matter of national service Donations can be deposited at any branch of FirstCaribbean bank or via online transfers.
Prime Minister King expressed appreciation for the gesture and the expectation that similar actions will follow in the ensuring days and weeks.
