Antiguas Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer has brushed aside opposition criticism of his countrys close relationship with Venezuela, describing suggestions that his government had sold its sovereignty to the South American nation as nothing more than political grandstanding.
The PM stated in his address to the media stated that it is a clear case of individuals trying to grand stand and to make declarations that have no basis in fact.
Antigua and Barbuda is the recent beneficiary of a US$50 million assistance package from Venezuela and Spencer explained that it was the countrys membership of the Venezuelan initiatives - PetroCaribe and ALBA - that made this possible.
He stated that his country have benefited from these relationships and will continue to forge these alliances, whether it is with Venezuela, Cuba or whoever else that feels it is in the interest of Antigua and Barbuda and the sub-region.
Prime Minister Spencer said a small developing state like Antigua and Barbuda could ill afford to become enemies of other countries.
