Students of the St. Lawrence Primary were given a candid look at the disadvantages of becoming involved in the gang culture. Community Officer Duane Davis took the message to the students, many of whom already knew of the contentious Gaza versus Gully feud.
He warned the students of the consequences of this glorified lifestyle and the dangers of seeking fast money. The Community Officer from the Worthing Police Station stated that while persons believe that it is too early to teach students about these dangers, he reminded that many of these children grow up in areas that may be surrounded and targeted by gangs.
Principal (ag) Gloria Bryan said that Our children are exposed to elements in the society and these things happen in their neighbourhood so they would bring whatever they have in their neighbourhood into the schools.
She also stated that We spend too much time trying to get them to be focused and to be disciplined and I believe that if children do not focus, sooner or later there will be no scholars in Barbados, because they see money coming easy and these children do not see education as a stepping stone. Therefore any initiative that would help our nations children to grow and to the best of their ability I am willing to undertake,
