Harold Crooks, the man who wrote the Crooks Report about how to fix the Belize Police Department is now a fugitive, being sought by Jamaican police investigating allegations that he and another man sexually assaulted an under-aged girl.
On Thursday, March 25, Crooks called Power 106 News and told the news anchor, Celia Morgan, that he fled Jamaica because he feared he would not get a fair trial, He did not elaborate on why he holds that opinion nor did he mention an accomplice, said to be from St. Catherine.
Crooks went on to reveal that he is in Canada and that if they want to catch him, they must be able to take the snow. On the question of the young girl that he allegedly molested, Crooks admitted to having a brief relationship, involving consensual sex with her after her sixteenth birthday.
Crooks told the station that he is over 70 years old and suffers from diabetes, a bad back and poor vision and he fears going to prison.
Crooks had told his attorney Vincent Wellesley he feared would die in prison.
He said that he is innocent, but that he has no faith in the justice system and he is not coming back, Wellesley recounted.
Jamaica Police began a manhunt for Crooks over the weekend after he failed to show up for an interview at the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA) last week.
