THERE is absolutely nothing to be afraid about following the Peoples Partnerships historic victory at the polls, Prime Minister-elect, Kamla Persad-Bissessar, said in her victory speech at Rienzi Complex, Couva, last night.
Be not afraid of the peoples victory. Those of you who did not find to support us, from today onwards, understand and know there is only one nation, there is only one people, so be not afraid. And for those who supported, I ask you be your brothers keeper, be your sisters keeper and no one must be left behind. Because if we leave one behind then it can happen to every one of us, Persad-Bissessar said in her first speech as this countrys Prime Minister-elect.
In her victory speech around 12.51 a.m. today,
She said the Peoples Partnership victory against the Peoples National Movement (PNM) was a sign that this country's democracy is preserved. She said the victory was the peoples victory.
Persad-Bissessar then thanked everyone who contributed to the partys victory last night.
She even paid special tribute to Basdeo Panday, the founder of the United National Congress (UNC), on his birthday (today). Persad-Bissessar removed Panday as the UNCs leader 120 days ago.
Persad-Bissessar said her first order of business, starting today, would be to choose those who would be forming her Cabinet.
