POLITICAL leader of the Peoples National Movement (PNM), Patrick Manning, last night accepted full responsibility for his partys defeat in the 2010 general election.
Manning said he would now have to reconsider his political future as a result of the defeat at the polls.
We here in the PNM believe in democracy. The people have spoken. The voice of the people is the voice of Almighty God. We accept the results and I accept full responsibility for it, Manning told a sparse crowd at the car park of the PNMs Balisier House, Port of Spain, headquarters.
Before his concession speech, Manning held a short press conference. He wished incoming Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar all the best in her new portfolio. On the stage he was more sceptical of the coalition arrangement.
Despite the result, Manning was thankful for the support from party faithful.
The only candidate on the stage as Manning gave his concession speech was Chaguanas Easts Mustapha Abdul-Hamid. Abdul-Hamid lost his seat. Manning then left Balisier House to visit the San Fernando East constituency he won.
