Honourable David John Howard Thompson, Prime Minister of Barbados passed away at approximately 2:10 a.m. today Saturday 23rd October, 2010.
He was 48 years old.
Prime Minister in May disclosed that he had been receiving medical treatment for an at the time undisclosed illness. Last month, he announced to the country that he had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
On September 30, the Prime Minister addressed the nation for the final time, at which time he announced a Cabinet reshuffle and devolved several of his portfolios to Cabinet members.
He became Prime Minister of Barbados in January 2008 when the Democratic Labour Party won the government.
Reliable sources indicated that he spent his last moments at his home in St. Philip, surrounded by his family.
He leaves to mourn his wife, Mara, and three daughters, Misha, Oya and Osa-Marie. |
