Following the pirate attack on the Pomeroon River in Guyana between February 3 and 4, where 15 fishing vessels and 19 crew members were attacked, the implementation of GPSs on fishing boats is among various measures being considered to offer greater protection of fishermen at sea.
Guyanas Maritime Department Harbour Master, Velton Skeete said a team, which will include members of the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guard, will meet with the fishermen. The aim of this meeting is seek answers on the way forward and the safety of Guyanas fishermen while at sea.
