One person was killed while 120 others revelers were injured in accidents and in street
clashes during Carnival festivities in Haiti.
According to the police, a 29-year-old man died when he fell and was crushed by a Carnival
truck.
Most of the injuries reportedly stemmed from brawls in the streets of Les Cayes.
Government officials estimate 300,000 people took part in this year's Carnival, which was
held outside Haiti's capital Port-au-Prince for the first time.
Organisers opted to hold Carnival in the southern coastal city of Les Cayes because a
settlement camp in downtown Port-au-Prince still houses thousands of people displaced by
the devastating 2010 earthquake. |
