General Secretary of the People's National Congress Reform (PNCR) Oscar Clarke was shot at his Sophia, Greater Georgetown home after bandits attacked his family.
Clarke was shot to the left leg and left side abdomen shortly before 21:00h. He is said to be in a stable condition and is conscious.
Clarke was initially taken to a private hospital, before he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
It is said that surgeons informed Linda Clarke, his wife, that his abdomen was not in trouble and removal of the bullet from the hip was not advisable.
The woman said she was taken into the house on the lower flat, gun butted and placed to lie facedown on the floor. The men then reportedly entered another ground floor room where the 74-year-old Clarke was located and a scuffle ensued between him and the robbers. It was then that shots were heard.
