Guyana (AP) Two people have been killed when a small plane doing work for a hydroelectric project in the South American country of Guyana crashed shortly after take-off.
Civil Aviation chief Zulfikar Mohammed says the US-registered Aztec Piper aircraft had just departed from a municipal airport east of the capital of Georgetown on Saturday when it lost power and crashed into a home and set it on fire.
He says no injuries on the ground were reported. Only the unidentified pilot and a technician on the plane are reported dead.
The crash is the first since the airport was commissioned last month to accommodate private jets and commuter planes as part of an upgrade to give passengers more options for short commercial flights.
