Chinese Ambassador Huang Xingyuan in a recent statement stated that more Chinese tourists would come to Trinidad and Tobago if the visa process was more efficient. He stated that spending on tourism is not the question for Chinese?tourists might spend up to TT$200,000 for just one single trip; the question is the visa.
The visa process is very lengthy and this is a discouragement he further added. The average wait to get a Trinidad and Tobago visitor?s visa is two to three months, because Trinidad has no embassy in Chinese capital Beijing, visas must be processed through the British embassy
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is scheduled to visit China later this year, and will possibly open the new embassy. Her state visit will follow Chinese President Xi Xinping?s state visit to Trinidad and Tobago in May. Huang said the Chinese government was giving ?top priority to Persad-Bissessar?s visit, which is expected to build on the bilateral ties created during Xi?s trip.
