WITH an order for 75,000 Trinidad and Tobago passports still outstanding, long lines outside the Immigration Division on Frederick Street, Port of Spain, are likely to get longer during this peak vacation period, as the authorities there are trying to defend whether there is a shortage or not. Reports are, that a new type of machine-readable, electronic passport is expected to come on stream from as early as next year.
The new type of high-tech security passport has been put on hold and three firms from the United Kingdom, United States of America and Canada have shown interest in supplying the passports to Trinidad and Tobago citizens.
Guyana has a similar problem with the shortage of passports affecting the work of the Consulate in New York
