Pope John Paul II used a meeting with the new Havana ambassador to the Vatican, Raul Roa Kouri, to reiterate his strong disapproval over the continued U.S. embargo against Cuba.
The George Bush administration last year tightened restrictions against Cuba, making it tougher now for Americans to travel there.
The Pope also requested that priests and religious workers of other countries be welcomed to support "the work of the Catholic Church in Cuba.
