St Lucia is celebrating its 35th year of political independence from Britain on Saturday unveiling a monument to the late Sir John Compton, the man considered as the "Father of the Nation" and the island's first prime minister.
Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony said this monument would remind all St Lucians of the life and stories which can be told of the late prime minister. Some of those stories, he said are facts of history and are to remind them of their past and struggles as well as their triumphs. He reminded St Lucians that they should always be united in the development of the island.
The independence anniversary is being observed under the theme "In unity and dedication, for the good of the nation".
