Three legendary Antiguan and West Indies cricketers knighted on Friday have all described the honour as prestigious and one they humbly and gracefully accept.
Former fast bowlers Andy Roberts and Curtly Ambrose and former Windies captain and batsman Richie Richardson were knighted during the first One-Day International (ODI) between West Indies and England at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Ground.
Roberts was the first Antiguan and Barbudan to represent the West Indies and made his debut against England in March of 1974.
Ambrose, one of the most feared bowlers of his time, played 98 Test matches for the West Indies. He took 405 Test wickets at an average of 20.99.
Richardson, the lone batsmen in the mix, said the honour signifies how much he is loved by his fellow Antiguans.
Former West Indies captain and middle order batsman, Sir Viv Richards, arguably the finest batsman of his generation, was knighted by the Antiguan government in 1999.
On Wednesday, a statue was unveiled in his honour at the cricket grounds.
