The Barbados government will seek to amend the Offences Against the Persons Act next month as it seeks to remove the mandatory death penalty imposed on people convicted of murder.
Attorney General Adriel Brathwaite told reporters Tuesday that he was aware that it would be a "battle" to remove the mandatory death penalty, but stressed that the entire country will be engaged in dialogue on the issue, as Government prepares to take legislation before Parliament.
It was said that Cabinet had agreed to the concept of parole, but the necessary infrastructure needed to be in place before it is implemented for example, issues of resources, training those who would work with such a system, and the space and that the electronic monitoring of persons on parole would also have to be considered.
