On the eve of International Family Day, a local minister rejected the notion of gay marriage and same sex parenting. Pastor Joscelyn Martin of the All Saints Church of the Nazarene said that two persons of the same sex marrying and raising a child is not considered a family in his book as yet because the ideal family would be the mother, father and children. He also said that the time will come when somebody in government is going to moot the idea of us having same sex unions or marriage but the day that it happens it would force him as a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and a marriage officer to officiate at such a ceremony and he would not do it. While he registered his distaste for same sex unions, Pastor Martin maintains he is not a bigot.
To date, 17 US states have legalised gay marriage and on Sunday, Michael Sam became the first openly gay athlete to be drafted to the National Football League (NFL).
Currently, the Dutch country of Saba is the only one in the region that has legalised same-sex marriages.
