Obese persons in Barbados being turned away by insurance companies
Monday, January 17, 2005
Fat people who want to buy life insurance had better pay closer attention to their weight before approaching insurance companies in Barbados.
An increasing number of obese people are being turned away by insurers because they are seen as too big a risk.
One woman told the local newspapers she attempted to buy life insurance last year and was turned away by the company on the grounds that she was too fat. She admitted she tipped the scale at around 300 pounds.
A local attorney Ralph Thorne said it is within the rights of insurance companies to refuse to sell life insurance policies to the obese if they think they are too great a risk.
He compared it to the insurance companies position when it came to persons infected with HIV/AIDS.

hey Ratti, mind yaself ya bumba dread
Hey there are fat people all over, not just in barbados. Fact is you don't here about obese people getting turned away from insurance companies in other islands is because they are not on controled U.S standards. Barbados borrows a lot of money from the Internatinal Monetary Fund so they have to play to Amerikka's tune and it serves them right. Stop doing business with the devil. Barbados is my country bit if they keep this up they will pay dearly for mesing with the devil.

stop bitchin' get to sweatin'
Honestly, I think that obesity is a sickness that can be controlled unlike hereditary diseases and acquried illnesses. People can find a way to lose weight in the Caribbean they can walk or run in the mornings. I have visted many isalnds and the people are very athletic. Therefore stop complaining get off your ass and workout

Lucky Dice you are right.
Lucky Dice you are so right. Them gredy people are dumb. the people should jack up th e price, maybe 7 times the premium. As for eating too much being a disease that is bullshyt. Drink water, exercise eat less. I mean look at that fu*king blimp in the picture. Natiness. Just like batyman and lesbian gluttony is a sin. I can't feel sorry for some greedy fool who is going to eat him or herself to death. Dummy.
So, more fire pon fat pigs.

well.....
I do not agree with the insurers. However, they have valid reasons for not selling insurance to obese people. One main reason is that corpulent people are at high risk of dieing before the estimated life expectancy. Insurers will be taking a gamble insuring an overweight person because that person may die before making their first payment on the $10,000.00(for example) insurance they just bought and still get that $10,000.00, because they have life insurance.

Obesity and Rejection
I feel that it is not right that the obese people get rejected, but at the same time if rejected, i do understand the reason behind it. Obesity is a disease. Meaning it does kill. Give Insurance but on conditions and terms.

That is bogus!
I believe that is a crock of shit.....no one should be turned down from receiving life insurance when they want it....besides, just b/c you are fat does not mean that u will necessarily die. To me that is just wrong of those people to treat obese people that way.
