British officer joins crime-fighting force

Monday, March 7, 2005

A senior British detective has joined the struggling Jamaican police force in a government bid to modernize crime-fighting tactics. The island now struggles with a soaring homicide rate.

Mark Shields, of Scotland Yard, will hold the rank of deputy police commissioner and oversee all criminal investigations on the island, the National Security Ministry said.

His appointment follows calls by tourism leaders for the government to enlist overseas help to curb gun violence, blamed mostly on street gangs vying for control of drug and extortion rings.

Spanish Town Roundup!
With the gang war that is going on and murder rate that is on verge of getting out of control. The Government have no choice but to take these steps. Something has to be done. They can not stand by and watch innocent people murdered. When the army goes into these gang infested areas they should not go in as peace brokers but, as an anti-terrorist unit. This is our country also. If you are found not guilty you should be treated like wise. But if you are found guilty for murder or any other violation you should be treated like a criminal. On the murder issue, it might seem cold but the Death Penalty is needed in Jamaica. Jamaica is an independent state. We should not let our policies be controlled by out side organization or groups seeking a spotlight in the media. Jamaica has long stand on it's own when it comes to it's internal affairs and it should maintain that trend. The roundup is the fault of the murderers and drug dealers seeking a permanent foot hold in these communities.

Crime In Jamaica
Crime in Jamaica, corrupt politicians, police brutality, no justice for the poor, where do I start?? It has been like this for years. The country will not be better until the people take a stand and unite...Know this, the politicians are all the same PNP or JLP it nuh matta! They are the reason why the guns are in the streets and now dem caan control the youth dem! money nuff when election come and when election done the money disappear but the yute dem still have the guns what yuh expect dem fi do?? I am not trying to justify the senseless acts of violence going on in Jamaica but I firmly beleive that the politicians are the root of the problem.

Stop Being Bias
Why do people who belong to one political party always blame the other side and fail to look at the party they are tied to. So i guess you are saying PJ Patterson has done no wrong? Please remember Seaga has left politics so now i know you are going to find another member of the JLP party to blame. Both political parties are deeply involve when it comes to the inaction against gangsters. A lot of these gangsters are connected so someone in government. I hope when there is no PJ or Seaga to blame. We start to blame ours self. God Bless!

Terrorist
The Jamaican Government should pass a new anti-terrorist law and treat these gangsters as terrorist. They are real terrorist, They have no true goals other than fighting over a spot of land that does not belong to them. The army should be sent in not as peace brokers but as an anti-terrorist force in these gang infested areas. I don't know what is taking the government so long. We need the DEATH PENALTY! The high crime rate is really starting to take a toll on the tourism industry. The school system is now becoming infested with gang activities. The domino affect is starting to go the wrong way in sunshine Jamaica.
