St. Elizabeth is to benefit from the visit of 20 dentists from Howard University, Washington, D.C., who will be providing free dental care for a week. The project is the idea of Dr. Thelma Thompson, originally from St. Elizabeth, who is president of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and a graduate of Howard University. In an interview with The Gleaner on Friday, Dr. Thompson said the project is part of her 'giving back' to her community. She said being from St. Elizabeth taught her that 'charity begins at home,'" she added she is pleased to contribute in some small way and would love to see the act continued from year to year." The team began work on Monday and ended on Friday. Communities to benefit from the project include New Market, Balaclava, Maggotty, Southfield, Top Hill and Junction.
