WINDIES FIRST TEST MINUS LARA

Monday, March 21, 2005

Guyanese-born cricketer, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, is elevated to the rank of skipper of the West Indies squad to face South Africa in the Digicel Home Series on March 31.

Board officials made the announcement a day after they invited Brian Lara to join the side but however, claimed that a "non-committal response" to the invitation led to them name the squad without him.

Lara propositioned the Board to include six other players who were declared ineligible due to their personal endorsement contracts with competitor, Cable & Wireless.

The squad went into camp from March 23 in Barbados and leave for Guyana
on March 28.

No support!
The idiocy of the W.I.C.B. shows once again, with the selection of a
"B" rated side, as a result of stupid contract issues. No other cricket board in the world would allowed such nonsence to happen---->Imagine Cricket is a Sporting Business, but we still play like this is the 1970's----> Since when do sponsers dictate a board of directors. Its time the board resigns and we get a group of business men to run cricket in the caribbean---> Your gonna keep out your main revenue earners (whether you like him or not) Lara, Sarwan and Gayle...what sence does that make.
Solutions=Better playing W.I. team=More viewership/More support=Other international teams raising their game=Us raising our game.....you see its a cycle that not only affects us,but the entire cricketing fraternity.
And once again mr white man in Europe is telling us what we must and must not do (digicell and cable&wireless) before we look for local sponsership--->Clico should really push for the contract, then the resignation of the W.I.C.B.
